#ShiftingMindsets and #FutureofWork

As part of the G7 Innovation Week in Turin, Italy, the ITCILO is hosting a parallel Shifting Mindsets session on Big Data and the future of work on Wednesday, September 27, 2017. This Shifting Mindsets session will increase the awareness and understanding of the Big Data and its potential uses for the world of work.

Big Data is the foundational building block of all exponential technologies, such as AI and other cyber-physical systems. It has the ability to fuel innovation and transform work in an increasingly digitized economy and networked society. For the world of work, Big Data can improve and augment labour market,  skills, and occupational analysis and outcomes by providing near real-time labour market data tracking, monitoring, evaluation, and labour forecasting and modeling. Alongside these great potential lies many data privacy and quality challenges. This learning event will showcase the use of Big Data to inform labour policy by promoting data-driven innovations for the creation of decent work and inclusive economic growth, while overcoming the pitfalls along the way.

Guest Speakers:

  • Leslie Cheung, Partnership Development Director, Powered By Data (Canada)
  • Alessandro Mantelero, Professor of Law, Politecnico di Torino and previously a Visiting Fellow at Oxford Internet Institute
  • Samuel Asfaha, Manager of Labour Market Statistics and Analysis Programme, ITCILO

When & Where:

When: Wednesday, September 27, 2017 from 13h00 to 14h30
Where: Piemonte 135 first floor – Viale Maestri del Lavoro 10, Turin, Italy

By leveraging the experiences and knowledge of participants in this learning event, the session strive to stimulate a lively discussion on the future of data and how it may help us foster the creation of decent work. Your participation is welcomed and encouraged.

About the Shifting Mindsets Sessions

Shifting Mindsets events are an interactive learning series that are part of the ITCILO’s Innovation Facility in joint collaboration with the Training Director, aimed at igniting conversations among our constituents about the latest innovation and technology impacting the world of work. Technology and innovation are transversal to all four thematic entry points of the ILO Future of Work Centenary Initiative and could shed new lights on the identified topics. Consider these conversations as an entry point to identify potential futures and explore the consequences of future technology for the world of work.
